[Helma-user] file read and processing pretty slow. ideas?

All previous experiments with this were on my workstation. I'm trying to 
run this on my production server now, and the results are really 
distressing.

Specs:
AMD X2 64-bit
1 GB RAM
Fedora Core 6 64-bit
2x80GB HDD in software RAID
Java 1.4.2 via the gcj java package that comes with Fedora Core 6
Java settings: -server -Xmx128m

Just read the file with File: 0.7 sec
Just read the file with helma.File: 11.8 sec (!)
Run the whole script with File: 59 sec (!!!)

Yikes! Now, I'm not really trying to build a production web application 
to solve anagrams, but this still doesn't speak well for trying to build 
any kind of production web application.

Is it my old and odd java? Someone in chat was saying that there's not a 
fully functional JRE newer than 1.4.x for AMD64, but it looks like Sun's 
providing 6u2 for AMD64. Is there a reason I shouldn't use it?
